Intro to Media!!!

1. There are many things that make up our culture. I cannot say that we only celebrate certain holidays or eat specific foods, because we don't. Unlike most other countries, the U.S. doesn't have an official language, nor do we limit people to what they can do because we have a "certain" culture. Sure, once our country started there were people from Britain so we have our national language (English), but as the years have gone by so many individuals and families have come from so many countries from around the world. That's what makes the American culture so unique. The fact there is no set-in-stone-type of American culture is what makes it American. Our country has been improving its outlook on other cultures by not acting as ethnocentric. We are definitely more accepting of others now.

2. To me, education is a doorway to success. A teacher once told me, "Your education is the only thing that'll take you anywhere in life." I truly believe this because once you have the knowledge of what you need to know then you can further your education by going to college, starting a career, travel and study abroad, and much more! It seems that more and more students take their education for granted a lot of the time. I value my education and I'm very thankful to be where I am at now. I do it because my father didn't have the opportunity to go to school. Education doesn't just have to be the big picture stuff like learning about who won the Civil War or learning the anatomy and physiology of the human body. Education is also about the smaller stuff like learning to speak up for yourself, asking questions, and making mistakes and learning from them.

3. Women in our society tend to be stereotyped and judged a lot. Ever since the 21st century began, the role of women in society has shifted. I think it's great that we can be independent, employed, and have the knowledge that otherwise wouldn't have been there had women not started to fight for their rights. I, personally, don't believe in the stereotypical job of a woman which is to stay at home. Like men, we should be able to explore the world. Look at Sarah Palin; we should be able to/want to take risks, run for president, start our own businesses. As women of the 21st century it is our job to not only watch and learn from the wise, but to also lead and become a wise woman ourselves.  =)
